Share Capital¶
Purpose¶
The Share Capital module tracks each member's shareholding in the cooperative. Shares represent ownership. Members purchase shares when they join or over time, and the total share capital is a key component of the cooperative's balance sheet. Share capital is also used in dividend distribution calculations.

Key Concepts¶

Recording a Share Purchase¶
When a member buys shares:
- Go to Finance → Shares.
- Click Record Share Purchase.
- Select the Member.
- Enter the Number of Shares purchased.
- Enter the Date of purchase.
- Click Save.
The member's total shareholding and the cooperative's share capital balance are updated automatically.
Viewing a Member's Shares¶
- Open the member's profile.
- Scroll to the Share Capital section.
- View the total number of shares and total value.
Share Capital Reports¶
Go to Reports → Financial Summary or Reports → Members to see share capital totals per member or cooperative-wide.
Tips¶
Tip
Communicate the share value and maximum shares per member clearly during onboarding. This avoids confusion during dividend distribution.
